FAQs

What is web hosting, and what does OverseasHost offer?

Web hosting stores your website’s files on a server so people can reach your site by typing your domain name. OverseasHost provides shared web hosting, reseller hosting, cloud hosting, WordPress hosting, VPS, and dedicated servers, along with domains, business email, and security add-ons — all from one account.

Signup is designed to take about 60 seconds, and shared hosting accounts are provisioned automatically after checkout — no manual setup wait.

Yes, a 30-day free trial is offered on hosting plans, in addition to the standard 30-day money-back guarantee described below.

No credit card is required to begin, and you can cancel at any time.

What hosting plans are available, and what do they cost?

Three shared hosting tiers are available:

  • Starter — $1.99/mo (billed monthly) or $3.99/yr (billed annually): 1 website, 10 GB SSD storage.
  • Business (most popular) — $4.99/mo or $8.99/yr: 10 websites, 50 GB SSD storage.
  • Pro — $9.99/mo or $15.99/yr: unlimited websites, 200 GB SSD storage.

All three tiers include a free domain, free SSL, daily backups, and priority support. Annual billing saves roughly 20% versus paying monthly.

The Business plan ($4.99/mo) is positioned for this — it supports up to 10 sites, daily backups, free SSL, and priority support.

Reseller hosting (from $9.99/mo, includes WHMCS and white-label WHM), Cloud Hosting (Ceph-backed, auto-scaling), Managed WordPress Hosting, Business Hosting, a Website Builder, VPS (from $24.99/mo, listed separately with more detail below), and Dedicated Servers (from $108.00/mo, Intel Xeon E3-1220Lv2, 4 GB DDR3 ECC RAM, dual dedicated IPs + SAN).

By default, yes — this avoids any gap in service. You can turn off auto-renew from your billing settings if you’d rather renew manually.

Yes — Cloud Hosting includes a free CDN by Cloudflare, along with 3× redundant Ceph storage, auto-scaling CPU/RAM, and an isolated container per site.

What powers your VPS hosting?

VPS plans run as KVM virtual servers on Contabo and OVH infrastructure directly (not through a reseller layer) — you get their SLA, network, and DDoS protection, plus a unified control panel, one-click OS templates, and 24/7 support on top.

Contabo tends to offer more RAM/storage per dollar and 32 TB of transfer at 1 Gbps — better for value-heavy workloads like game servers or dev VMs. OVH tends to have stronger network quality and includes unmetered transfer plus Anti-DDoS Game on higher tiers — better for latency-sensitive production traffic.

Yes, on every VPS plan — SSH-key or password auth, sudo, kernel modules, custom ISO uploads, and iptables access. Managed plans still give full root; management adds monitoring and remediation on top rather than restricting access.

Under 55 seconds from checkout to SSH-ready on standard Linux images; Windows Server images take 3–5 minutes for first boot. Rescue mode/OS reinstall completes in roughly 90 seconds.

Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CloudLinux, Fedora, Windows Server 2022, plus app templates for cPanel/WHM, Docker, and Plesk Obsidian. Custom ISO uploads are supported on any plan.

Yes, L3/L4 scrubbing is included on every VPS at no extra fee — Contabo provides edge-level protection, and OVH nodes get their Anti-DDoS infrastructure (up to 1 Tbps mitigation).

Yes, vertical scaling (more vCPU, RAM, or NVMe) is a roughly 60-second reboot from the panel. Downgrades are limited to storage-safe changes to protect data.

Managed VPS plans include weekly off-site backups via JetBackup with 30-day retention. All plans support on-demand snapshots from the panel.

Yes, a 30-day money-back guarantee applies to VPS plans, same as shared hosting.

What is domain registration?

Domain registration is the process of reserving a unique web address — like yourbusiness.com — on the internet for a set period, usually one year or more. Once registered, you can point it to a website, email service, or online store.

Use the search box above to type your preferred name. We’ll instantly check availability across hundreds of extensions and show you the best options and prices.

TLD stands for Top-Level Domain. It’s the part that comes after the dot, such as .com, .net, .org, or country-specific extensions like .ng. Each TLD has its own pricing and registration rules.

Yes. You can transfer most domains to OverseasHost by unlocking the domain at your current registrar and providing the authorization code. Transfer pricing is listed in the TLD table above.

Most domains can be registered for 1 to 10 years at a time. You can also renew before expiry to keep ownership active.

If a domain expires, it typically enters a grace period where you can still renew it. After that, it may be released for public registration again, so we recommend enabling auto-renewal.
Yes. Domain privacy protection replaces your public contact details with proxy information in the WHOIS directory, helping reduce spam and protect your personal data.

Absolutely. Many businesses register multiple domains to protect their brand across different TLDs, common misspellings, and regional markets.

WHOIS is a protocol used to query databases and obtain information about the registration of internet resources — domain names, IP addresses, and autonomous system numbers. The term also refers to the system and databases that store this information.

WHOIS is primarily used to look up information about the owner of a domain name, such as their contact details. It’s also used to find information about IP addresses, including their allocation and registration details.

WHOIS databases are operated by domain name registries and regional internet registries (RIRs) for IP addresses. These organizations maintain databases of registration information for the resources they manage.
Yes. Personal contact information can be exposed through WHOIS, which has led to regulations balancing privacy with the need for transparency and accountability in domain registration.
There isn’t a single global WHOIS directory. Instead, various WHOIS databases are maintained by individual registries and registrars for the different top-level domains (TLDs).
Can you migrate my existing website for me?

Yes, our team can handle the migration for you — files, databases, and email are moved over with minimal input needed on your side.

We aim for zero downtime by building your site on our servers first and only switching DNS once everything is verified. Your current site stays live throughout.

Most cPanel-based hosts, as well as common CMS platforms like WordPress. Send us your current host’s details and we’ll confirm before starting.

Migration is included at no extra cost with eligible plans — check your plan details or ask support to confirm.

What security is included with hosting?

Free SSL, DDoS mitigation, Imunify360 malware scanning, and an auto-patched WAF are included. Two optional add-ons extend this further: SiteLock (24/7 malware scanning and auto-removal for site and email, plus a trust badge) and CodeGuard (daily cloud snapshots of site and database with one-click restore).

Servers run firewall and malware-scanning layers, with automatic isolation between accounts on shared plans so one compromised site can’t affect others.

Yes, backups run automatically on a regular schedule and are restorable from your control panel. On-demand manual backups are also available before major changes.

Contact support at support@overseashost.com immediately — we’ll help isolate and clean the affected files, and assist with any blacklist removal requests once the site is secure.

No — SSL certificates are non-refundable once issued by the certificate authority.

Is email hosting available separately from web hosting?

Yes — Business Email is powered by Open-Xchange on NetApp storage, priced from $1.50/mailbox/mo, with apps for iOS, Android, Outlook, and webmail. Titan, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365 are also offered as email options.

Yes, every hosting plan includes email hosting on your own domain (e.g. you@yourdomain.com), created from your control panel.

Use the IMAP/SMTP settings shown in your control panel’s email section — most mail apps can also auto-configure using just your email address and password.

Yes, shared plans have a daily sending limit to prevent abuse and protect deliverability. Exact limits are listed on your plan’s spec sheet.

Yes — you can point your domain’s MX records to Google Workspace (or any provider) while keeping the rest of your hosting with us.

Yes — new business email plans are covered by the same 30-day money-back guarantee as shared hosting (first-time purchases only, not renewals).

No — third-party licences such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Titan seats are non-refundable once ordered.

Do you offer a money-back guarantee?

Yes — new shared hosting and business email plans include a 30-day money-back guarantee from the date of the initial order, covering the hosting portion of the payment. It applies to first-time purchases only (not renewals or upgrades), and is limited to one refund per customer per service type.

Domain registrations/renewals/transfers, SSL certificates once issued, dedicated/bare-metal servers (including setup fees), third-party licences (cPanel, Plesk, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Titan), and any administrative, migration, or one-off professional service fees. Anything cancelled after the 30-day window, or a renewal payment, is also non-refundable.

Cancellations must be submitted in writing — either through a cancellation request in the client area, or by emailing support@overseashost.com from your registered account address. State the service, domain, and whether you want immediate cancellation or cancellation at the end of the billing term, and submit at least 3 days before renewal to avoid being billed for the next term. Phone, live chat, and social media requests are not accepted as formal cancellations.

Yes, by default, to avoid unexpected downtime or domain loss. You can disable auto-renewal in the client area. Note that renewal charges paid before a cancellation request is received are not refundable, and expired domains may incur registry redemption fees.

7–14 business days to the original payment method once approved; the exact time to appear on your statement depends on your bank or card issuer. Any bundled promotional domain/licence/setup cost is deducted from the refund, and gateway or currency conversion charges aren’t reimbursed.

Accounts suspended or terminated for breaching the Acceptable Use Policy (spam, fraud, malware distribution, illegal content, abuse of shared resources, etc.) are not eligible for any refund, regardless of time remaining in the billing term.

Contact support first — most billing issues are resolved within a day. Filing a chargeback without prior contact can result in suspension of all services on the account and a reinstatement fee covering the disputed amount plus processor charges.

How can I reach support, and how fast do they respond?

Support is available 24/7 via live chat, tickets, or phone, with an average response time cited as under 3 minutes (2m 41s average response/CSAT figure shown on-site).
